A word from Executive Director, John McCollum, about Asia’s Hope and the COVID-19 virus.

March 12, 2020

Dear friends,

I wanted to take a moment to share with you how the worldwide spread of the COVID-19 virus is affecting Asia’s Hope and what we’re doing in response.

Although at this time we do not know of any cases of COVID-19 infection among our staff, kids or international visitors to Asia’s Hope, we are taking the situation seriously. True numbers of infections in our program countries are impossible to come by (not to mention in our supporting countries), but it is nearly certain that community transmission of the virus is occurring globally.

We are working with our national directors to ensure that they have the funds and the information they need to maintain the health of our Asia’s Hope family members. We are not instituting strict isolation procedures yet, but we have cancelled some previously-scheduled large group outings and are holding all future plans for conferences, gatherings and outings lightly and re-evaluating them on a daily basis.

We are, however, asking all of the groups who were planning to visit our homes in Cambodia, Thailand and India between now and June 1 to postpone or cancel their trips. We will issue further guidance about Summer and Autumn trips as the situation develops. We are also working with our national directors to evaluate and, if necessary, alter their own travel plans.

Please pray that God will continue to protect the kids and staff of Asia’s Hope, as well as all of those supporting this vital work.

If you would like more information about our response to this crisis, please feel free to contact me john@asishope.org or Roxi Larsen, Director of Strategic Partnerships roxi@asiashope.org.

Warmly,

John McCollum, Executive Director
