Congratulations to Srey Ka Phann and Kakrona Khean, the first-ever recipients of our Exemplary Scholars Fellowship grant!

We're pleased to announce that we have awarded our first annual Exemplary Scholars Fellowship grants to Sreyka Phann and Kakrona Khean.

This fellowship is a highly selective, strategic initiative designed to develop the next generation of high-capacity leaders.

The grant is a merit-based financial award intended to allow a university graduate to pursue a full-time, higher-level course of study or training.

Srey Ka was admitted to Asia’s Hope in 2006 along with her two younger siblings, and recently graduated from Royal University of Phnom Penh (Cambodia) with a B.A. in Economic Development. She has served since 2014 as a volunteer, intern and finance assistant with Phnom Penh-based child protection charity, M’lup Russey.

In 2018, Srey Ka traveled with a team from her university to compete in the Mekong Region’s Governance and Development Youth Innovation Competition in Vientiane, Laos. Based on her project’s success, her team was awarded a grant to continue their research and to present at the organization’s competition in Shanghai, China.

Srey Ka said that she will use the funds from the grant to seek a Masters Degree in Business and Finance at the Royal University of Law and Economics (Cambodia). “I want to work in the non-profit sector and help NGOs improve financial efficiency and accountability.” She notes with gratitude the role that Asia’s Hope has played in her life, “I too was a vulnerable child. My life has been so blessed by Asia’s Hope. Without Asia’s Hope, I could not be where I am today.”

Kakrona came to live at Asia’s Hope in 2008, and graduated in 2017 from Build Bright University (Cambodia) with a B.A. in Law. He has worked in Finance for the Battambang Municipality, as a computer teacher at Asia’s Hope, and as an administrative assistant at the Asia’s Hope Secondary School.

One of his teachers, Mr. Suam Rassy, says of Kakrona, “Even though he has graduated Law School, he is humble and patient. He has a heart to help others, and I know that he will become the high-capacity leader this grant was designed to promote.”

Kakrona will use the funds from the grant to complete a four year Theology and Christian Ministry degree from the Phnom Penh Bible School. He hopes to one day pursue a Masters of Organizational Management degree from the National University of Management and go on to lead an NGO or Christian charitable organization. “I was an orphan since my early childhood. When I came to Asia’s Hope, my life was changed. I achieved my dream of graduating university, and now I want to gain skills to benefit society at large, especially vulnerable populations in Cambodia.”

Asia’s Hope is currently providing full-ride undergraduate university and vocational school scholarships for more than 125 students in Cambodia, Thailand and India. This year, we have awarded only two graduate level scholarships, but we expect that number to increase in future years as more of our students graduate university and funds for the program grow.

If you would like to help us offer university and graduate-level scholarships to more Asia's Hope students, you can make a generous donation to "schools and scholarships" through our secure online donation page.
