Born in a remote S'gaw Karen tribal village in the mountains of Northern Thailand, a series of childhood tragedies nearly robbed Arunpon of any chance to reach her God-given potential.
After her father died, Arunpon's mother became seriously ill and could no longer care for her. She went to live with an older brother who struggled to feed his own wife and children. Like so many other orphaned hill tribe children, she was malnourished and lived each day at risk of exploitation.
When Asia's Hope learned of Arunpon's desperate situation, they invited her to join the very first generation of children to live at our Doi Saket 1 Children's Home near Chiang Mai, Thailand.
That was nearly a decade ago.
Today, Arunpon has just completed her final semester at Payap University, where she ranked first in her chosen major, Psychology. After graduation, Arunpon accepted a position with a Christian charitable organization, located in Chiang Mai, that works to rescue and rehabilitate victims of sexual abuse and trafficking.
She dreams to one day return to work at a hospital serving the impoverished and vulnerable hill tribe people living in and around her home village.
We're so proud of Arunpon and all of the Asia's Hope graduates working to transform not only their own lives but those of their communities and countries.
This year, 14 young adults who grew up at Asia's Hope will graduate university and start their careers in law, banking, psychology, medicine, business and public health.
Their successes will inspire us. More importantly, they'll inspire the next generations of Asia's Hope graduates.
With more than 100 Asia's Hope students currently enrolled in university and vocational training programs — and hundreds more in primary and secondary school — Arunpon and her peers may be the first of a new generation of leaders, but they certainly won't be the last.
Because of your generosity, we've been able to provide the comprehensive care kids like Arunpon need to achieve their potential. May God continue to bless you, your family and your work as you continue to bless the staff and kids of Asia's Hope!
